Mini Back Box Questions

Hi there,

My 52 plate mini cooper requires a new back box and brackets. My local garage, who are very reasonable and always do a great job, told me that they would have to order the part from BMW and so fitted would be £300 plus vat. BMW quoted me £370 to fit. Kwik fit said they'd fit one for £280, thought BMW said it would be poor quality and less durable.

What is my best option?

My other idea was to buy a new genuine exhuast on ebay, and take it to the local garage to fit, which would work out cheaper. There are not many cooper ones available, however there are many cooper s complete exhausts. I would not be buying one to make my cooper look like a cooper s, just seems it would be cheaper! Would a cooper s exhaust fit a cooper and is it a valid idea?

Thanks all, stuck on this one!

Pedro

Hi. Don't claim to be an expert on this kind of thing, but as no one else has replied yet...

The S exhaust will fit as quite a few people have done it, but you'd need to change the rear valence as well so that you have a gap int he middle rather than the side! i guess there will be other modifications required too just to hang the thing.

£300 sounds very expensive just for the back box. have a look round some of the sponsers of the site. just had a quick look and Minispeed do a complete Milltek exhaust for the cooper for £200 + vat. Don't know how much fitting would be though! just thinking you could use the opportunity for a mod!

(just looked at the sponsor list and minispeed weren't on there? Are they not a sponsor? Thought they were. If not - apologies Paul!)

Thanks for the link, the Miltek exhaust looks pretty sweet. Would you and others recommend? What's the sound like?

Yeah definately a mod opportunity!

Thanks

How about this, should it be straightforward for my local garage to fit?

If you have to change parts of your exhaust, it's a good opportunity as people have mentioned to upgrade it to a better system.

There's nothing wrong with the stock BMW system, just there are better ones out there.

Perhaps even the JCW one if you'd like to stick with manufacturer approved parts.

Which dealer was that? Sounds like a bargain.
