Question Coolant change

My 03 MCS has had its second brake fluid change today and while there, MINI found some problems. One of the problems was that it needed a coolant change as it has to be done every 4 years. Is this part of the service and should be free or is it separate so I have to pay for it? They are charging me £80 + VAT to do that.

Can anyone explain this to me as I'm very confused!!

Thanks

Inga

I would have thought it would be seperate as I dont remember seeing it listed as part of TLC anywhere.

Coolant change is recommended by MINI every 4 years.
It is not part of routine service inspections (i.e Inspection 1 & Inspection 2) so it is chargeable.
You could always do-it-yourself and save £80+VAT

How much is the coolant to buy though? Or are you thinking distilled water and mix it yourself?

It is chargable as I had to pay just before Xmas, but thankfully because MINI mucked me about when they didn't do it when I had the car serviced and I had to go back, they gave me a discount.
Believe I paid about £40, ask the question with the service department and see if you might get a discount .

£80+VAT seems very expensive. It might be worth doing yourself!

BMW charge silly money to do anything! A coolant change should be something any garage should be able to do without charging you £55 per hour.
