Cleaning the black bits!

Hi.

Can anyone tell me how to clean the black trim that goes around the car i.e above the door. (and forms part of the windscreen structure too) It's like a felt / plastic material and usually ends up white after using polish on the bodywork. Also, the black soundproofing / sealent around the sunroof - and tips ideas please??

Thanks.

you tried 'back to black'? or the tyre shine stuff, is all the same really. should make it black rather than white!

yeah but cos the area im treating is so thin i.e you cannot spray it directly on how do you apply it without it going all over the newly polished bodywork ? And if you put it on before polishing then you get the white marks! Arghhh!

place ur index finger in a microfibre cloth, spray on a small ammount of tyre shine (meguiers is fab) on cloth then rub into black trim....because its a clear spray-no marks left on paintwork

I put the 'back to black' stuff on using a brush. You only need a bit on there and you can control where it goes, then i wipe over it with a cloth.

the professionals use a kind of masking tape to tape over the plastic areas when polishing the metal to ensure that polish doesnt go on the plastic resulting in white faded bits.

n vice versa

you can mask the metal/painted areas to treat the plastic without getting the spray/gel on the paintwork

and yes this is a Bugatti Veyron

i usually spray it on a cloth and then wipe the area, that way you can easily conrol where you are putting at, and you dont put too much on either! although, masking is a good idea, but will take alot longer to do

I use the autoglym bumper care on the black bits at the bottom of the car. It's a green gel and works really well. I haven't used anything on the trim around the top yet as I've got a convetible so there isn't much to do.

I do use masking tape to prevent the white marks though. I've got some extra felxible stuff from B&Q, it only takes a few mins to apply and saves getting any marks.

Back to Black and Bumper care only cover up the white marks and they will come back once it wears off - I use Autoglym Fast glass on a cloth to remove the wax marks then use the bumper care as a final clean/shine

Mask up with 3M 3434 tape to prevent polish / wax going where it is unwanted!

I dont have a sunroof on my MC but im guessing the black rubber around the sunroof is the same as around the windscreen / windows? If so then you need this (Einszett Gummi Pfledge) Einszett Rubber Protection "Gummi Pflege"

Einzsett do some good products for trim care! Dont use back to black as it is an extremely bad product. Washes off after a quick shower of rain!

I also like Chemical Guys New Look Trim Gel for the plastic trim, and Poorboys Trim Restorer

Hope this helps!

P.S. To whoever posted the pic of the Veyron... That was some detail wasnt it! Looked amazing once it was finished!

P.P.S. To remove the white stains on the plastic use Smooth Peanut Butter

Peanut Oil is the best as it goes on great and costs very little, a mate got a bottle for me for about a quid, not many shops sell it in oil form so you can get away with peanut butter (its what I tried first and it works a treat).
