washing in the rain

just washed my car in the rain, think i have heard someware this was a bad thing to do [nb removed from garage hour beforhand so not coverd in wet road debris]
also know i should not wash in bright sunsine, as it drys before i have finished washing [white marks again]
but i collected quite a few bugs etc in the last few weeks, which need a good soak to remove?, [thanks MINI2 for the 2 bucket tip]
plus in hard limescale area, so no white marks, from rain water
no idea on detailing etc so is this a good idea long term,

carefree

Wont do any harm to wash in the rain. Of course you'll get better results, and ideally should, wash in the dry (and dry the car properly and so on), but I'd say it's better to wash off the crap in the rain than leaving it there.

Sometimes there is no option to wash the car in the rain with all these blasted bugs around at the moment

Please be aware that washing your MINI in the rain may cause you to receive strange looks from neighbours. I was doing mine in the rain at night before the last Cotswolds run and passers by though I was mad. Well they're right.

If you live near me, people seem to think washing your car by hand (in the wet or dry) is mad!

One girl in particular always comes up and says "You do realise there are car washes which can do that for you? Why go to all that effort?"

Her car is covered in tree sap and bird poo at the moment too.

You should just play along with it and tell her you weren't aware.

Better to hand wash in the rain than use a car wash or jet wash for that matter...damage the brush can cause to the paintwork is terrible as well as the fact they cant get at half the places on a car and miss bits. Jet washing on a regular basis...think how powerful some of them are, no one can hold them the exact distance in feet cm yards mm etc away from the car that is recommended over time I believe they can cause as much damage in a differnt way as a car wash, as well as blasting into unknown places.

Is she cute? Tell her you do it purely so she'll come and talk to you

Tell her the blokes at the hand car wash are far less attractive than the girls who recommend them.....
