A/C compressor wiring recharge

I am troubleshooting my A/C on my '02 MCS. I want to manually turn on the A/C compressor (It is not turning on automatically ). I found the relay in the engine compartment fuse box -- Can I bypass the relay contacts and turn on the compressor momentarily? The wire harness to the compressor is not accessible to put 12 volts there. Thanks -- Dave
