Hi

Cars now out of warranty and im looking to diy a few things.

My bentley manual suggests getting an adjustable torque wrench that loads to at least 150NM. Worthwhile investment or not? Really for jobs like removing intercooler, getting the by pass valve out on the S, or rather for the putting back stages!!!

Anyone know any good places to get one on the internet, thinking one of the socket type with a ratchet that clicks when you reach the set torque. See prices from around £20 to over £100. Wouldnt mind spending like £30 on one.

Any advice please.

Hello PmP,

I have a Torque Wrench that was from halfrauds for around your price mark, this has come in handy a few time and is a worth while investment, this is also a good quality piece ofkit not a cheap and cheerful one

A mechanic I know bought a cheaper (£80) torque wrench. When it was checked it wasnt very well calibrated and failed the test. He has recomended one, whos brand I have forgotten, that costs £150, because its acurate. when it comes to tightening things like wheels, brakes, engine mounts etc I think its important to get it right. Besides, £150 is only a couple of hours labour you dont have ot pay for with BMW to break even.
