DIY Engine maintenance in OC, California

I have a 2003 MINI. Two months ago the engine overheated and leaked lots of coolant. I took it immediately to Irvine MINI. They said they could not find a leak, but charged me $340 to replace the thermostat! Driving to work today it leaked again and overheated - same symptoms as before. I am told there is a crack in the radiator that will cost over $800 to repair; naturally the crack is new and not related to the previous leak. Sounds fishy to me. Don't tell me about Crevier, I've tried them many times and was also very dissappointed (several items were stolen from car, did not do all work, could not find noted problems, etc). So, I am in desparate need of an independent, qualified MINI service shop in Orange County, California. Thanks.

If you're an Auto Club member (or even if you're not -- you can still use the search facility), try one of their Approved Auto Repair facilities:

AAA Approved Auto Repair Facilities Search

I've generally had good luck. And the one time I didn't, AAA proved to be a very able ally.
