Servicing using TLC before service indicator countdown

Hi all,

My 2003 Mini Cooper is approaching its 5th birthday in April 2008. The OBC says my next service is not due for 9500miles. We only do 6000mls/year so the next time the service warning comes on will be AFTER the 5th birthday, i.e. after TLC expiry date.

Question - are dealers obliged to service my car free of charge just before the 5th birthday, even though the service warning hasn't gone right down to 0 miles (it'll be more like 4000miles left)? Or will they simply refuse?

I just want to make the most of the TLC package before it expires as I plan to sell the car next year! Does anyone know of any legal obligations that they have?

They'll refuse. If you read the small-print (or not-so-small-print) you'll find that it's based on time and mileage, and the service indicators are variable. TLC and TLC XL are still good value, even though both are timed to "deny" you a service.

The earliest a dealer will service a car is 1000 miles before the indicator says it's due. One solution is to buy TLC XL, which covers you until 80,000 miles or another three (I *think*) years. It cost me £300, but may or may not have increased since then.

I agree with OLDNELL, I've just bought the TLC XL and its a great bargain. Similar warranty for m,y BMW Series 3 is nearly £1,000 PER YEAR!
