Drivers Headlight not Self Levelling

Hi,

I have a 2001 Cooper with standard lights fitted. However with the dark nights i have noticed that the drivers diped light doesn't 'self level' as the passenger side does. When I move the rotary dial on the dash to the higher position only the passenger side rises. The drivers side will rise at best once in 30 attempts!!!

The stealership say that the levelling motor is part of the whole light assembly and I should replace the light at a cost of around £150 + fitting + vat.

I have taken the light out and cleaned the connections but this has made no difference. Would this be correct advice from the stealership or does something else control the levelling system that may be at fault?? Don't want to replace headlight if it may be something else

Thanks

Thanks for that.

I have had a look on ebay, but I am reluctant to change light if there be some other fault.

I'll keep looking for a solution.

Hi MIL and welcome to Mini2.

Your dealer has got it right I'm afraid, and you will need to replace the whole unit as the motor is integral.

I had both mine go at the same time - 6 months out of warranty! Since they both went at the same time, my dealer moaned at BMW and successfully obtained a matching pair under warranty, so I just ended up aying for fitting.

I was given excellent service, a smart move by the dealer as I bought a new car from them a few months later.
