DIY MINI Seal & Protect

Has anyone paid for the Seal & Protect paint and interior protection system?

My dealer is very adamant that this is worthwhile, but i'm not convinced.

For £299 i reckon there are better ways of protecting the paint work, like a professional valet and paintwork correction from these guys Zymol Professional Car Cleaning Polishing Treatments Prestige Detailing Devon UK maybe?

Cheers,
Bob.

Both my mum's and brother's new R56 Coopers came with the Seal and Protect, and we weren't asked if we wanted it.

That's pretty common, especially on new cars, as most Sales Execs are paid a fixed commission for selling the car (regardless of whether they discount it or not) and then earn more for selling Seal & Protect (or SupaGard or whatever they're calling it this week?).

By including it in the price of the car they earn more money without having to convince the customer to spend more.

As for the original question of the thread, all the Paint & Fabric Protection products available do exactly what they claim to, and are worthwhile if you aren't the type of person that enjoys spending time keeping a car clean, but are they worth £299 (or often much more)? Basically, no.

If you want it on your car then go on eBay and buy a Supagard or Safegard kit and do it yourself and save hundreds.

Pretty much the responses i was expecting.

Given i'm fairly obsessive about keeping my cars clean and shiny, the £299 is definely best left in my back pocket ... for now anyway!

You can buy the genuine stuff they use on ebay for about £10, its called BMW Hard Wax. I have used it, it is very good, its more of a chemical sealant and lasts way longer than any wax I have used, usually meguairs or zymol. Recently turned to Klasse, a german sealant, also very good.

Once it is applied, you just need to keep it washed and the sealant keeps the top coat. It feels almost like it has been waxed every time you wash it and bobbles up nice as well.

If you like keeping your car clean and know what your doing, and there's a wealth of advice avaiable over the internet, then I'd say don't bother with it. And for £299 you could have a top quality detail done, probably even with a level of paint correction (if it's not a new car, which I guess it is, but even then there can be some pre-delivery marks inflicted), something shine and protect won't offer.

Cheers Guys.

My car is a used one, from MINI dealer, so there is a distinct possibly that some paint correction could be worthwhile.

I think for now i will save the cash and just keep the car clean (as much as possible in this sh**ty weather), then maybe look for someone/where to give it a proper valet and a bit of paint correction in the new year.

Bob

working on a clubman purchase and Mini Park Lane want £398.99 for seal and protect!

The (very nice) salesman saw my jaw drop and and explained this includes a 3 year warrantee on the paint and interior. i.e. you spill something on the interior and it stains, they'll clean if and remove the stain for free.

Has anyone else heard of this? Has anyone used this warrantee?

Matt, this is probably Supagard or diamond brite, one of those packages £398 is far too much. The warranty etc is genuine and the suppliers of the product are VERY good at rectification work , which in fairness doesnt happen very often (i work for a main dealer(not MINI) ) but they have loads of movment in those prices too, see all the above comments in this thread, they're all pretty much correct. If you like cleaning cars then dont bother, if you dont like it then bach the dealer for a deal (dont pay more than £200!) . You dont say if its just in & out? our packs at work also give dash protection / window etching and keycare and I'd sell it for £200 if i HAD to and still make a profit.
