Runflat Puncture Repair - Surrey

Hi All - I've got a puncture in one of my runflats and I'm getting the runaround from all my local tyre shops as they are comingout withthe usual line of "it can't be repaired".

I live in Chertsey, Surrey -Does anybody know where I can go to get a puncture repaired. ?

Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Peter

They (run-flats) can be repaired, but as with any tyre it depends on what damage & where the damage is, a tyre not repaired properly could be dangerous! , I have had, and have seen plenty of repaired run-flats (I'm in the motor trade), Most of the tyre fitters will be covering themselves, If they repair your tyre and then you have a tyre failure and it causes an accident they could be liable? Plus those run-flats are extremely hard / difficult to get off / on and they can damage wheels & equipment in the process.

I know my man (who does mine) is more bothered about damaging the end of his machine (replaceable but ?) and he will only do them at my own risk (in case he damages a wheel).

That was interesting as my local ATS Euromaster used to just say "No", that was a bit ago though, If I'm out anywhere and get a puncture , I think I'll be looking for the nearest ATS Euromaster .

Thanks! Martin F

Saving those few £££ could be costly ???, and I know chances are the nail will go straight through the tyre you just had done last week , but is it worth it.

There are a quite few threads on run-flats v non run-flats, or on run-flats / non run-flats if you search .

I think one of the most important issues is (especially if you have a COOPER S), If you ditch the run-flats, what do you do for a spare wheel, ONEs & COOPERs on the 1st Generation MINIs can at least have one fitted and the puncture repair systems don't always work .

I dont live in Surrey but..my local Supertyres repaired two runflats on my previous Conv for £10 ! a HUGE saving on paying £130 IMO..
And as for ditching runflats, our insurance company said it would make our insurance null and void if we swapped as the car is supposed to be run on runflats, i know not all are the same but do check first

Hi All thanks for your comments on this, I can understand the repairers wanting to cover themselves. I think I just need to find the right garage that will repair them. I think these tyres are a pain. All the tyres are brand new and it looks like I already have a puncture. Aargghh

Cheer

United-States Dump RunFlats

I have had my Mini for 63,000 miles (100,000k). Here in States (NY) big trucks depress grooves in roads. My original run-flats stuck in those grooves like a stylus in a vinyl record. Car jumped / jerked around in these road depressions. HATED these tires, got a flat and cost $250.00 to buy new tire. Then switched to a good Bridgestone (performance tire at $125.00) and a can of green slim tire repair and ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world. Car handles wonderfully on all roads. You save $500.00 on a set of four tires and should you have a flat - a tow will only cost you $125.00.

I would make your insurance company show you IN WRITING something that says the car is "supposed" to be run on runflats. I'm talking manufacturer's recommendation, on BMW letterhead signed by a design engineer-in-charge, or higher.

Otherwise your insurance company is, to use an internationally recognised saying, "jerking your chain"

Runflats mean only one thing:- you have to drive your Cooper S slowly, and then more slowly as the tyres wear. This is good for insurance, bad for fun driving factor.
