Wales Waxing and how to protect the ext plastic.

Having had some nice Swissvax cleaning products for xmas, so I have decided to give the wifes Mini Cooper the full treatment within the next few weeks.
Question - For those of you that use wax, how do you protect the external plastic from the wax?
I had considered masking tape or making sure that the all the plastic is cleaned and treated (with something like Swissvax Pneu) so that it won't absorb the wax.

Any recommendations?

Cheers & Happy New Year

You could use painters tape or just be careful. If you do get some on the plastic, you can use a white rubber eraser to get it off, or use peanut butter (it does work). I just use the erase and it works very well.

I mask the trim off with painters tape.

After waxing and removing the tape I apply Black Wow to the trim.

This is about keeping wax off the black trim on the wheel arches and around the bottom of the car.

Black wow is the best product I have found to keep the MINI black trim looking in top shape. Very quick and easy to use and very durable.

The only downside is that it is not easily available in the UK.

Cheers

I use tyre shine on my black bits....lasts alot longer than back to black etc and is alot shinyer!. However, like ONED said, insulating tape is very good - just put it where you dont want wax and it wont get waxed!

ohhh, sorry. I use Megs if I get wax on the trim, but it doesn't last that long.
Trying to source some Black Wow, only heard good things about it!

when using masking tapes be careful! some can leave residue thats hard to remove! if you can always use 3M 3434 Blue High performance Masking Tape

As of black wow.... I have mixed opinions. when you first apply theres nothing better! it does make the plastic look good! but it does fade quickly! Autoglym bumper care definatley lasts longer!

The new meguires range don't. I place near me has started to sell the trade stuff got a tub of clay for a £10 its about 3 times the size you get in the clay kit and polish also for the better weather.

I was thinking, on the aerokit the black plastic is actualled a gained paint and I was wondering if it would be possible to spray the rest of the black plastic with it?
