alloy wheels slight paint wear

Having had a Mini Cooper S a few weeks now i decided to give it. Its first proper wash today.
While cleaning one of the wheels i noticed that there seems to be a slight amount of pitting on one the alloy wheels.

Has anyone seen this before?
Does anyone know if its covered under the warranty?

Many thanks

I can't really see from the picture, but it might be brake dust. I've found using a clay bar on my wheels lifts the ground in brake dust off extremely effectively.

Yours does look more like pitting than brake dust to me, though.

Can't say for certain from the pics but it looks like a paint defect to me or maybe someone has been a bit aggressive with some acid wheel cleaner ? How old is the car ?

It depends really if the dealer thinks the paint defect has been there since the manufacturing date, or if they will class it as fair wear and tear. I'd say take it back and give it a try they can only say no !
If you get no joy from the dealer give someone like Chipsaway a go, they should be able to come round and do a decent cosmetic repair on it for about fifty quid or so.

Saw the same thing on my OEM 15" White alloy wheels ! I'm quite disapointed - but again, i'm only gonna use them in the winter, so... i'll leave it at this point !

should be covered under warranty. I had all 4 of my polished R99's replaced under warranty due to the lacquer bubbling.

You might have to jump through hoops, but depends on what your dealer is like.

Alloy Wheels wear away over time, this is due numerous objects like brake dust and salt, this causes the laquer(paint protection) to peel/errode causing the paint to pit or flake. Alloys are always going to have to be repaired even if you use alloy wheel cleaners/products this may slow the process of the laquer peeling but scrubbing the alloy hard is just speeding up the process of the laquer falling off.

I understand that, but in the case of my car [which was only just over 1 year old], you don't expect your £1,450 optional extra alloys to corrode. So they were duly replaced under warranty.

When its out of warranty, I'll probably have them re-done in black.

All went well at the cooper norwich they are going to sort the alloy out and the man said he will sort the other 3 out as well as there is signs of pitting ECT around the wheel nuts.
So all in not a bad little trip

just waiting for them to ring back and book it in, I hope they give us a BMW again as a loan car????

Good stuff, telstar.

I didn't think it looked like brake dust, to be honest.

What is "pitting ECT", by the way?
