Offline | Just picked some up.........the offer also applies to Castrol Edge 0W-30 which is recommended for MINI's in the UK according to the Castrol website. I think 5w-30 is for other climates but ok for topping up in UK? |

Offline | I don't think it's that critical, many MINI owners in UK use it but it would seem that 5W-30 is used in hotter countries whilst 0W-30 is used in colder countries, such as the UK. (0W-30 is thinner at low temps = easier starting on cold mornings, etc.) ![]() 0W-30 Castrol Edge is BMW Longlife-01 on the label........ |

Offline | I wonder if this variation in viscosity of oil to use i.e. 0W-30 or 5W-30 is related to the 'engine noise when cold' problem with MCS owners. The thread has been running for almost a year and no cause/cure has been found, apart from it's oil circulation related. BMW apart from selling the MCS in the UK sell them in the US, if all the production cars have 0W-30 then this could be too thin depending on the climate and cause most of the oil to return to the sump rather than retaining some in the cylinder head area ![]() |

Offline | National Tyres are selling Castrol Edge 5W 30 at £28.90 including VAT and 10% discount. You have to order it on line then collect from your nearest branch. National Tyres I don't know if they sell Castrol Edge 0W 30, but it's a matter of personal choice. |
