HI

My JCW works mini (2003) had a strange 'rattlely sound' on tickover. Appeared to come from the top of the engine around the supercharger area.
Mt Friend (a mechanic) suggested he thought it could be bearing noise - suspected supercharger bearing .
We have now romoved the suspect part.
When we start to rotate the blades their is a destinct 'click' . If rotation continues no more noise.
Is this normal ??

If you wobble the pulley from side to side the 'click' dontinues. We were wondering if the gearing may be a little worn. Car has 50k ish miles.

Otherwise seems to rotate OK , Does any one know how to diagnose a supercharger problem and how easy ought they spin?

You will have to remove the water pump from the charger- It sounds like the gears are knackered-check the teeth -they may well be gone ,not uncommon -was any oil in the charger? or signs of leak?
No one services the charger oil and they can fail !!
