Reverse Torx screw on door stay?

I searched the forums before posting for help.

What kind of reverse torx screw is this?

My first generation MINI Cooper S has a passenger door that is clicking when opening. I've traced this to the spring-loaded door stay or stop that holds the door open at various positions.

The attachment to the door frame is loose, and the spring lash between stops is causing it to move a little.

It is attached to the door with a screw or bolt, that looks like a large torx bit. So to tighten it, I would need something like a socket that you could put a large Torx bit into.

Anyone know what this tool is called or where to get one? Bonus points if the retailer is located in Canada.

Thanks for any help,
/\/oah.

Have a look here (in the bottom RH corner)

RealOEM.COM * BMW R53 Cooper S FRONT DOOR-HINGE/DOOR BRAKE

Is it component 8 the M8 torx screw? You should be able to buy a std socket for that?

It's an external Torx or E Torx. You can buy a "cheap" set at Princess Auto on Dixie Road.

Thanks everyone!

Wow, a one hour answer. BMW wouldn't even get back to me that fast.

That's it exactly, component #8. A 22mm Male Torx screw. I've only ever seen Female Torx screws, I have a number of Male Torx Bits.

A Female Torx socket is _exactly_ what I need, thanks. Also called external Torx, I suppose.

Bonus points to XRV848 for finding me a source in the GTA. A good excuse to get out to Princess Auto as well.

I knew MINI2 members would have the answers, thanks to both of you!
