Question A couple of questions from a new owner...

I've bought a new MINI (my first car). It's only a basic One, but it's all I can afford. I'm really enjoying it so far!

I've just been across to Halfords and bought some oil... Castrol Edge 0W-30. I got some screen wash too... Halfords Ready Mix Screen Wash (not the premium stuff). I was a bit flummoxed by the coolants though, so can anyone recommend one... is it that crucial which type I use? Is it necessary to drain the existing coolant when adding a new product? If it is... how do I do it?

Also... where can I get MINI oil and other products (other than at the dealership)? The oil is mentioned in the manual, but I haven't been able to find it online.

Sorry that these are all pretty basic things, but as I said... this is my first car and I want to look after it.

I had a look in halfords a few weeks ago for coolant ( blue colour ) to top my cooper , but could not find any suitable.

I went to BMW dealer and bought a litre of the proper stuff for top up purposes.

I think it was about £7.99 or thereabouts.

Is the car brand new, or just new to you?

You'd be better off just checking oil and coolant levels occasionally and making sure there is no radical change.

Coolant can be topped up with water if need be.

Oil - I wouldn't mess with it. MINIs use expensive synthetic oils. If you have a drop in oil level take it to your dealer pronto!

ummmm really?? i used the haynes manual as a guide for what to use and also rang the dealer to double check then bought it from halfords. About 6 months ago and it has been ok.
