Offline | Oil Help please! Hello, I recently checked my oil level, and found it to be minimum, so quickly bought some oil from texaco. Not knowing anything about Oil, i asked the bloke in there who suggested for my Mini Cooper the Havolin 15-40w (suitable for hot hatches etc). Its only know having put in half a litre, that I have read i should of used synthetic, and not mineral oil. Only half a litre in car at most, major problem?? |

| I miss my MINI | You need to take the car in for an oil change. From your above post, I assume that you put in 15w-40 rather than 0w-30 (the "w" stands for winter). The weight is the last number and you put a heavier (thicker) oil in. Also, you state it was not synthetic. Typically this is not an issue but the weight difference tied to it is not a great idea. My advice is just to have an oil change done and the problem will be solved. Next time it might be best to refer to your manual. Global Moderator ![]() |

![]() Obsessive Car Cleaner OCC | You can get an online deal with national tyres, £33.70 if you pay online for a full oil change. Thats a great price and thats with Castrol Edge 0W 30 Also if you juust turn up on the day for an oil change and pay there its stil only £37.00 considering 4L of Castrol Edge from Halfords is £42.99. Online | not sure about this, but i would assume national use a generic filter as opposed to bmw part so for extra piece of mind i would suggest you buy the bmw part and take it with you, i doubt you could invalidate your warrenty, but you might loose your tlc, and for the cost of the filter i would not take a chance, i would also make sure they do not reset your service count down [to be honest they wont] good luck ![]() carefree |

Offline | No it won't There is nothing that says you must use BMW parts. All you must use is parts that a suitable for the job. BMW have to prove that the part you used was not made to be used in a MINI or similar vehicle. They might try that one, but as long as the parts used were fit for purpose then you should win! |
