DIY engine bay

hey,

since my car is pretty new i want to try and keep the engine bay clean from now, to avoid having a big job in a few months time... only thing is, i have no clue where to start? i would really appreciate it if someone could point out a few useful tips on what to do, and more importantly what not to do!

thanks!

Protect the electrical areas with a poly bag, ie coil, warm the engine as it helps drying, use gunk or similar, applied with a long handled brush ,get scrubbing!!! then wash off with water -use a squirty bottle rather than hose pipe,or fine spray nozzel on hose, concentrate on the oily areas .
use soft clothes for final drying.
pair of gloves helps as you will scratch your hands and using soft gloves you can get into small areas with your fingers to dry/clean (use cheap throwaway gloves not your finest leather gardening ones!!)
This is not a 10 min job !!
using engine dressings give a shine but wear off quickly and then look c---p
polishing /waxing painted surfaces takes even more time but does look good
chrome/stainless items including wheels benefit from Zoopseal
