Hello,

I have a seven week old Astro Black S which was bought brand new. It has been washed twice, very carefully using the two bucket method, both times it was very early morning with no sunlight.

In direct sun, there is a strange effect in the paintwork, almost as though you could put your hand into the paintwork if that makes any sense. The best way to describe it is a holgraphic wavy pattern. It is only when the sun is directly hitting the paintwork that it is visible. I didn't notice it when I collected the car, but it was a very overcast day.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? My dad took a wild guess that it could be that they coat it in some sort of special wax for transport (I live in Australia).

I'm not sure whether it's anything to worry about. The Astro Black paint is metallic and as I noticed this morning (in sunlight while washing my car), you get shades of different colours (as you describe, a holographic type effect).

It could be the wax though. I'm sure someone else with a AB car will be able to answer also!

Thanks for the replies...it does look very similar to the Golf on detailing world site...

Think I might head back to the dealer and get them to do all the hard work though, bit beyond my expertise and I'm scared anything I do may make it worse!
