Question MINI Warranty...? TLC XL...? Which...?

Hi all,

I'm a bit confused, and was hoping someone might be able to clear the haze for me...

I bought my 2003 MCS (40K miles) back in January, and it came with 1 remaining TLC slip. I haven't used this, as I've still got 2,800 miles ticking away until a visit to the garage is needed. When I do use this, I was going to take out the extended TLC pack, to cover it for another 3 years.

However, the other day I received a letter from MINI, advising that my MINI Warranty is about to expire, and would I like to extend it. Now, I was told by my dealer when I had a problem with the boot release electrics, that my car would no longer be covered under warranty, so it would be chargable - however, it looks as though I am still covered under warranty, until May 25th.

Could someone clarify what the TLC covers, and what the extended warranty covers, please?

I have the option to choose Comprehensive (£443), Named Component (£414) and Driveline (£326) warranty.

It was only last week that I had to renew my tax - another case of "everything comes at once!"

Cheers all!

I think the £300 TLC XL covers

circa 50k Inspection 2 service
circa 65k Oil Service
Brake Fluid Change at 4 years old

All in all it will save you money as MINI servicing is not cheap. Obviously if you were to get your car serviced by an independant then the TLC XL may not save you much.

As for the warranty. Have you considered a third party aftermarket warranty from someone like warranty direct?

Getting some servicing quotes from independant garages, and warranty companies may help you make your decison.

So I assume TLC doesn't cover any parts that need replacing at the service, but warranty covers all parts (minus wear and tear)?

Correct on the TLC bit. Can't comment 100% on the warranty as I have never seen the MINI extended warranty wording. On the face of it though it should be the same as the original 3yr warranty.

Left it until the last minute (again), but could anyone advise on whether this is worth taking out or not?

I'll be taking the TLC XL out, but really not sure if the Extended Warranty is worth it or not - it's a big hit to the wallet, and would have to borrow the £400 to purchase it.

I think I will be taking out the TLC XL as it is sure to save money. We recently paid out £480 for a Volvo V50 27K service So my guess is the XL for £300 is a really good deal.

I might reconsider if there was a decent dedicated Mini independant dealer locally.

It will be a much bigger hit to your wallet if anything goes wrong and you have no extended warranty..
Even the simplest of repairs (steering column for example, extremely common issue) with eat that £400 in the blink of an eye.......
