Offline | Wax basics Hello MINI aficionados, I have a 5 year old MINI Cooper in 'pepper white'. It gets washed once a week or so, but it's starting to look a bit ... dingy. There are some spots where tree sap haven't entirely come off, and black dots on the bumpers. I'm wondering whether I need to get it Waxed. Has anybody waxed their MINI, or recommend taking it to a place that details it? I've never, in 5 years, waxed it. Someone once told me that the newer paints don't require waxing, and that waxing may even be bad for your car. Is this true? Sorry for the dumb question.. Ashton ) |

Offline | hi you definately need to wax it. i would suggest you clay it first to get rid of all the tree sap etc. the i would use a good polish, i use dodo juice lime prime, then use a good quality carbuna wax, you should notice a difference after that. |

| MINI2 Regular | New paints don't need waxing and it's bad to wax! that is not true at all and what a stupid thing for that person to say. As your car is 5 years old it probably desperately needs claying. Claying will remove tree sap, tar spots and all contamination from the bodywork, giving a great start for polishing then waxing. Many Mini's have been detailed take a look here, http://www.mini2.com/forum/photos-ph...eos-showcases/ I see you live in America (where detailing started) I'm sure someone local will be able to bring your Mini back to life if you didn't want to do it yourself ![]() Have a look at these guides, Good Washing Technique - Detailing World Detailing Clay : Starters' Guide - Detailing World |

Offline | Definately clay the car!!! I clayed my LY mini last week and the result was unbeleivable. I had to use mild and aggressive clay for some areas though. Got dodo juice during the week so if the weather holds out i will test it tomorrow. ![]() |
