I've managed to recover some sad, sad looking cars (even black ones) with clay bar and meguiars clear coat body scrub, after a good clean, and followed by a good wax.

When the extension work was being done, the MINI was always parked under a tree - Full off crap and sap - Not to mention the fact we hadn't cleaned it for 2 months

Turtle Wax Shampoo (cleaned the whole car twice), then a good waxing session. If you're really frustrated with tar marks (got really bad on the last MINI), you may end up having to use petrol It's ok though, its being washed straight off And it does the job nicely

I used a megs claybar the other week on mine an although it wasnt that dirty to look at you could feel the difference even before polishing / waxing, it was a glasslike finish. All i did was wash with autoglym shampoo, dry, clay with megs bar and megs QD, rinse and dry. then finally Megs paintr protection / polish / carnba wax 3 step system. If you dont want to go through that lot, try some Megs cleaner wax, The last time i polished the car pre claying i used a sample bottle i had of that and my Mrs said it was the cleanest she'd ever seen it.

Did you use the claybar that was in the kit?

I used it and some tar wouldnt come off, I had to buy aggressive clay to get it off.

I was using Megs gold class. The clear coat body scrub can work real wonders though, I couldn't recommend that highly enough to be honest.

Its amazing the difference. So much dirt came off my car with using it.

It was strange though, yesterday when i washed the car again the car felt rough just before i washed it but was as smooth as when i clayed it after.

Obviously bonded contaminants dont bond straight away. Amazing results and doesnt need to be done often

Not sure, last time I was in there I think our local Halfords had it, but our small local car places stock it.

Adam only change to a more aggressive clay if it is absolutely needed. Looks like your Mini is new ish I wouldn't have thought you would need a more aggressive clay and using one could cause damage.
Have a read of this - Detailing Clay : Starters' Guide - Detailing World

After claying try Meguiars Deep Crystal Step 1 - Paint Cleaner this will make your bodywork extra smooth and very clean.
