This question has been raised before, but there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. Apparently, when a MINI dealer does an oil change on a Cooper S equipped with the standard oil cooler, the procedure is no different than for an oil change for a standard Cooper which does not have the oil cooler.
This probably means one of two things: - 1. The oil cooler is designed to drain automatically when the oil sump plug is removed and all oil is drained from the Cooper S engine. (very, very unlikely as the Cooper and the Cooper S both require the same amount of new oil to fill the engine)
or...
2. A Cooper S oil change really only changes perhaps 90% of the engine oil, the other 10% remains in the oil cooler and ends up being mixed with the fresh fill oil. (I think this is the likely situation, and it's not too satisfactory, but I guess the engineers weren't too upset about this).
Getting back to the original question, I don’t think anyone has removed or somehow drained a Cooper S oil cooler. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather
