mechanic recommendations

Hi All,
I'm new to owning a Mini (02 plate Cooper S) which is one of the best cars i have owned. I'm looking for a 'trust worthy' local garage to service and or carry out any maintenance i need doing, can anyone recommend a garage in or around Leeds West York's which either specialises in Mini's or has a good reputation for quality work on Mini's
Thanks
.
Simon.

Why not use the dealer? Although you'll save money on servicing, your resale value will be hit, as people don't really want minis without fmsh. Still, the service I have received from Stratstone Harrogate when they were carrying out warranty repairs was absolutely superb, so try them!

Thats what Chris and Derek Woodman charges, so prices should be similar.

I was looking more for somewhere to take the car for general repairs, not just for servicing. My warranty has run out now and i dont really want to be paying main dealer labour rates for general repairs.

I've just noticed this other thread on the same thing ....Link to follow i need 5 posts to put the link here

might go check these guys out.

Are any of our tuners in your area? More than likely they can help as well.

Ok, so after reading the other thread I decided I’d give the guys at the Bavarian Motor Warehouse a go. It sounded like the other chap had a good experience, and I just have to say so did I.

I phoned up at lunch time and spoke to Ish, told him my problem (oil leak…sorry I’m not very technical) and he said I could bring it down and they would find the leak for me. I phoned back at 3pm to let them know I could drop it off that night so they could look at it the next day. Finished work a little early to make sure I got there before 5 but ended up getting there about 4.30.

The guys put the car straight on the ramps took about 30secs to diagnose a faulty oil filter seal ordered the parts right away, I decided might as well have a full oil and filter change while I was there. The lads cracked on with it and I was back on my way home by 5.30. Fantastic!
As it turns out I need a new breather pipe too, which they will fit for free once Mini gets the part. Winner!

Had a bit of a chat to some of the guys and as it turns out they all worked at BMW and MINI in Huddersfield before setting up, and were more than happy to chat about Minis and share some advice with me.

Anywhoo, to cut a long story short I was well impressed with they guys at the Bavarian Motor Warehouse I’d be happy to recommend them and I will definitely be using them again, but hopefully not too soon

They sound really good! Still, I have TLC for ages yet! Also Huddersfield is a bit far to travel and I would want to maintain my FMSH. What is their labour rate?

I said that I used my dealer and they offered a good serivce. I then said I had TLC, but they sounded good! Sorry but 2 posts per thread isn't too bad. Yes I recommend dealers, but I know people like independents. At the end of the day, you only tend to read one post on a matter not two or 3.

You are still under warranty where many aren't. I don't think that it is necessary to bring up resale in every thread.

Do you work for a dealer or something?

I don't work for a dealer.

1. In the UK, you can service your car where you want, and providing you use genuine Mini or equiv parts, your warranty is unaffected.

2. Of course its important to bring up resale - thats the main factor which is affected by where your car is serviced.

In the US, people may not care where cars are serviced, but in the UK, many people (in fact the vast majority) do care and adjust what they are willing to pay accordingly. There are obvious differences between buyers in the UK and US.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. Nice to have additional options available that won't break the bank.

Let's skew this back on topic. He is entitled to his opinion even if I (or others) don't agree.
