Electric Window

Morning Mini Addicts,
My drivers door window often fails to work. There is a click when the window switch is depressed but window fails to work, doesnt even drop the little when you open the door. Then again sometimes it is fine. My dealer says new motor required at a cost of £285 fitted. I fail to see how a motor can come and go. Any ideas? Its an 03 Mini One btw. Thanks.

I've been having a similar problem with my driver-side window, except that mine isn't intermittent - it just plain doesn't work.

My problem seems related to other electrical failures that all seem to be happening at the same time (can't purely be a coincidence, can it?):
Strange Electrical Problems...?
So keep an eye out for anything else unusual... I'm a bit lost on the whole issue, myself.

Although, if yours is intermittent, you might also consider this thread:

Good luck!

I had a final bill on Monday of about £310 to have the motor and regulator replaced for my drivers window.

All the best,
Andrew.

Come on people! This is America, right? Or is it? Never mind . . . The windows on the Mini are nororious for failing. And yes, they are expensive to replace. So fix them instead - like I did. You have to pull the window and regulator out of the door. Then take the motor apart and clean it up and put it all back together. Just be patient, gather your how-to data off the net, and have at it. It is not that hard. Believe me, if this Yank can do it anybody can.

The motor has not failed, it tends to get stuck, I have 2 minis and this is always fixed by a "THUMP" to the top right of the door.

Re greasing the cable and runners will prevent this from happening again.

Motors do not just "Stop" working

DO NOT PAY FOR MINI TO REPLACE THE MOTOR. There are loads of threds on here if you search about this happening, it happens weekly with mine, so as minionfun said, a sharp bang/tap/slap (which ever you feel like doing!) around the top speaker by the window fixes it every time! In the UK I'm pretty sure its down to the fact that Mini's are made in Cowley, Oxford whish is next to Blackbird Leys Estate which has the largest crack problem in the UK! Thats always my excuse, crack-heads did it! haha
