DIY MOT - Did yours pass its first MOT without fault??

The MOT on my 06 plate Cooper (1st Gen) is due on the 1st March - its first MOT as it'll be three years old then.

So, was wondering what chance I have of it passing without fault.

The tyres / brakes are all good. So my questions to all you helpful people are:

Did your MINI pass its first MOT without any problems? And if it didn't, what did it fail on?

Any general pointers on what I should check over would be good too.

Thanks folks!

James

No, my 04 MCS failed its first MOT on a track rod end and I'm sure I've heard of a number of other similar stories.

If I'd known at the time that MINI dealers offer a reasonably priced pre MOT check then I would have put it through one before the warranty ran out as I think it possible MINI would have replaced it under warranty (the car was very low mileage at the time).

This is what I will do too. I've just advised my friend with a 55reg to do this recently too. Just take it to MINI while the warrenty is still in play and get it checked out pre MOT. Then any warrenty work will be done and covered. I think my friends "Health check" was free.

My warranty is valid until the 28th Feb, and it is booked in for the MOT for the 16th Feb. I guess this will cover me should anything be fixable under the warranty?

Yep - MOT will be done at the main dealer on the 16th.

OK, so are there any known areas of concern for MINI MOTs that aren't warranty fixes?

Thinking wheel bearings / seat belts etc. As far as I know everything is fine, just asking in case there is anything I can do to prepare it before the day.

Mine failed it's first at the MINI dealers. Exhaust mount and rear cliper rubber boot twisted causing the rear brakes to stick on.

2nd MOT I went independent and apart from the 1 tyre I knew about and had preordered it flew through.

3rd MOT, last week, at the same independent - sailed through no problem

mine failed for corrosion on rear brake discs, the dealer actually advised me to have the mot before the warranty was up so if it failed on any of the parts covered they could replace them free, the brakes wern't but it gave me an excuse to upgrade!

They didnt mention a pre mot check or anything, sounds a bit like a con to get extra money to me

My dealer also advised getting the first MOT done before the warranty ran out, which I did.
The only thing required when tested was re-alignment of the headlights, which they did FOC.

Mine failed its first MOT due to the driver side wiper not clearing the window properly. The Mini dealer wanted to charge me £22 pounds to change it.
