Hazy smears...

Hi all

I'm looking for some advice on my paint finish.
I've always used autoglym for years and found it to be a great polish...but....somethings gone wrong with my finish...

In the shade the finish to my Astro black looks great but in direct sunshine it look Very smeary.

I tried using auto glym polish (The Red Bottle) to clean it back but this hasn't helped.

I normally use the Gold bottle stuff to put a nice top Wax coat.
Any advice on how to strip whatever has got onto the paint off would be appreciated (Dont fancy throwing T Cut at it!?

Thanks.

Dave.

I think it is a paintwork cleaner you need to try and then rewax the car, try this forum and do a search, you will find all the information you need.
A world for detailers...

I use Proshine - has a strong degreasers to remove anything that you have missed during the wash Tar spots etc ( and safely ) also has high levels of Carnaba Wax - i gave up with AG SRP it just smears and leave loads of white dust specs . paint work is them as smooth as a babies behind and leaves no marks or smears - apply with Microfibre cloth then buff off with a Microfibre cloth - it also creates a water barriers and the water simply flows off leaving NO water marks at all !!

Yes you need to machine polish to remove fine scratches and swirls. Megs Step 1 like AG Super Resin Polish do a good job of filling fine scratches and swirls, but you won't remove them, only improve by hand application.

I have used Megs Step 1 and it's pretty good, smells a bit strong, not sure if it will cure your problem or not. I hope it helps

Easy, use Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine. Its specially formulated for dark coloured paint and you don't get the 'hologramming' effect which is what I think you're describing!

http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product...6VQ=HF&Range=1

Altho its not recommended for usual washing, Fairy Liquid is excellent at stripping wax's and polishes from your paint work.

Also as you have a dark car, you can improve your finish no end by using the 'two bucket method' for washing your car. Everyone should be doing this by now anyway!

Thanks for the advice - its years since i used washing up liquid on a car!
Maybe i try that then use the Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, then a good polish and wax.

Thinking back I had a moment of weakness and had one of those drive in hand car washes - maybe thats whats caused the hazing...

I've been detailing for a number of years now and the best method of ensuring a good finish is the preparation. Wash, Clay Bar, Wash again, Machine Polish, Wax.

Menzerna or 3M is one of the best polishes out there for tough German paints etc. Designed to be used with an Orbital machine. You simply cannot get the results by hand.

I rate the Meguiars stuff, that's what the valeters use on all of our cars and they look brilliant in both light and dark. Saying that the Mini could use a clean!!

It's a Mini Adventure.

I have just come home after washing, polishing and waxing the family cars.

My one is a solid black mini, which after 4 years has got fine swirl marks.

I can live with these, as when a good coat of wax goes on, it shines wonderfully, and I don't want to pay for a professional detailing session on it yet.

But, with my car being black I get the hazy hologrammy effect where it looks like the wax is just sitting on top of the paint work causing a smear.

I have been using Autoglym extra gloss protection and Meguires cleaner wax. Both products give amazingly good finishes to my old red car, and my mums blue car.

But I will definatly be getting some of the new Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine. And hopefully this will stop the smeary/hollogrammyness

you'll need a lot of elbow work to get rid of swirl marks. might as well get someone to buff the car for you with an orbital.

Ive had similar probs as those you describe... Try Dodo Juice Lime Prime then some wax on top... Mine after the above (plus a few other stages in the cleaning process )
