help! where does this wire go?

HELP! I found this wire (picture attached) hanging down when i removed the sump guard from my mini one. can somebody please tell me where/what it attaches to? i have had a good look around but cannot see where it has come from or where it goes. is it for a sensor? there nothing wrong with the way the car is running etc and i'm getting no warning lights to point me in any direction either, i.e. oil pressure/level etc.

Does your Mini have Air Con or not?
The air con compressor has a round wiring plug socket similar to this and on cars not fitted with air con the spare wiring harness connector on the car is ty-wrapped up out of the way...........yours may have just come loose?

No mate my mini does not have air con. The plug terminal has also oxidised leading me to think that maybe its never actually been attached to anything. Think you could be right on this. Thanks for your help.
