7000 mile oil change and brake check? Hi, Im relatively new to MINI ownership, and the car it a 07 plate. According to the service book I think im supposed to get an oil change and brake check at 7000 miles. That right? I dont live that close to a dealer, so is this somthing i can do myself - i assume it woudlnt invalidate the warranty, but id have to use the right type of oil maybe? What does the brake check consist off? Following on from that, im not really clear about the 1st main service, am i supposed to take it in after the first year, or when i reach a certain mileage? Im not really clear on this so im a little confused. I think the display is supposed to flash to tell me right? thanks Joel

Minis are 2 years or as the service counter says (15-20k) You can take it anywhere you like, BUT it has to go to a registered garage using genuine mini parts. Have you not got the tlc pack? ![]() The Original MINI One Seven Yorkshire MINI Register - PM for details

yeah i got the tlc pack but dealership is miles away so ill take it there for the main service, but regarding the oil change and brake check id rather do it myself than make the trip. Anyone know anything about the oil change, and brake check?

Has your car been serviced by the dealer yet? Because if not its due a main service - 2 years OR mileage, whichever is first ![]() The Original MINI One Seven Yorkshire MINI Register - PM for details

thanks, so ive done somethign like 11k i think, cant remember, and its 18months old or something now, so does it tell you not only if you reach a certain mileage but also if it reaches the date, or do i have to keep an eye on the date myself? What about the earlier oil change, am i right that i can do that myself?

My advice is to keep within the service programme that comes with current car, once the service programme has ended then look at it yourself. This will keep the cars value should you wish to sell it.

You have to keep an eye on the date... A clock comes up on some cars after 2 years signifying brake fluid though... You can techinically do the oil change yourself - however, it'll still have to go mini/garage using approved parts for its services as specified in the service manual. If you paid £185 or something like that for TLC then you have free servicing! It'll need to go in on or just before its second birthday if you aren't meeting the mileage requirements. I'd strongly advise you not to service it yourself - it'll be worth a LOT less, and you'll have no warranty. ![]() The Original MINI One Seven Yorkshire MINI Register - PM for details
