Halfords car polisher

Hi i'm after opinions about this product. I'm refering to thr 240v mains model. Has anyone used it? Or is it still better to do it by hand?

I used to have one - it put marks in my car - so I invested in a Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher - which I am far happier with - the action is totally different, so it makes it hard for you to damage your paintwork

the Halford polishers just spread product around, something like the Meguiars G220, will produce much better results, it reasonably safe and does light work such as waxing to paint correction.

according to what ive read the halfords one is ok for light use, but ive also read the higher powered models; like the porter, if used in untrained hands, can 'burn' the paintwork by over vigorous use.

auto express rates the halfords one quite favourably-

i really dont have an opinion as such on these as ihavent used one, just passing on what ive read. hope it helps.

forget any of the ones in the auto express test, all but one would be far to big for regular cars, The Meguiars G220 potentially could burn through unlikely, a rotary is the monster polisher in untrained hands.

Check out this test... it contains polishes and waxes which do 2 completly different jobs.
Car polish test | Products | Auto Express

Polishes...

carplan ecocar polish
Nielsen flawless polish
Comma car polish

Waxes...

Collinite 476s
Collinite Marque d’Elegance
Sonax carnauba care
Autoglym high definition

What is it you want the polisher for if its applying wax, there is little benefit doing it by machine.

I've just bought one of these.

Silverline 289446 Random Orbital Sander 125mm - 240V on eBay, also, Rotary Tools, Power Tools, Business, Office Industrial (end time 09-Jul-09 11:15:39 BST)

Going to buy a few polishing pads and some polish and see how i get on with it. Will work out to cost about £70 so a lot better than some other polishers
