stone chips Astro Black!

my Astro Black MCS seems to get stone chipped like mad!

is this normal? other cars Ive had get chipped of course, but this seems every time I go out, come back with a white rash! its the bumper, grille, bonnet and air intake.

getting on my nerves now.

other than touching them up all the time, anyone tried colour polishes to reduce the visual effect?

I have a solid black cooper s which is covered in them along the front too.

When I bought the car 2nd hand from cherished they had touched them up all really well so you could hardly notice, but having had the car for a year now there are a lot of additions (especially after driving past those pesky gritting machines last winter)

I have not tried touching them up myself because I think I would do a really bad job and make them worse, so I have tried the coloured polishes to see if that helps, and in my opinion it really doesnt help what so ever.
The coloured polishes may mask finer swirls, but does not seem to make one bit of difference to the stone chips

what you need to do to touch up is get the colour to match the car which comes normally in a small stick with a brush. Paint the chip let dry then get some tcut and polish the colour into the car.

Halfords once sold a lipstick type touch up,and they were pretty good at doing stonechips, they called them chipsticks, and they came in a variety of colours, you simply rubbed it over the stonechip and it would then fill it in,not a permanent fix but lasted a long time, then simply do it again, and they fit in your handbag if you have one, only joking, they was only a couple of quid if i remember, hope this helps.

I wouldnt mind giving this a go one day.

I am always a bit scared of using tcut on my MINI even though I have used it on my 1990 E30 which has come up brilliantly with it.

I just dont want it to go wrong and for it to look a mess

here's one method, filling with paint, wet sanding flat and polishing up. Would'nt recommend you do it yourself, but some of the pro's on DW do it.

okay, had an artists oil paint tube lying around, rubbed that in, left to dry for a few mins, and buffed off with a cloth, and hey presto! chips virtually disappeared!

will need to go over the deeper/larger ones to ensure full colour coverage, but this was easy to do. smaller chips (and a small bonnet scratch I had) gone now.

will carry out a full frontal after the next wash!
