hiya, best way to stop swirl marks is a washing with the two bucket method.

You use two buckets (can get ones with grit guards, such as meguiars), a Washmitt (only safe sponge is the Zymol one). One bucket has car shampoo solution, the other plain water. Then the process goes-

Rinse car
Take washmitt from shampoo bucket and wash part of the roof,
Next put the washmitt in the rinse bucket (rub it on the grit guard) squeeze it out a bit.
Put the washmitt in the shampoo bucket now its clean do the next bit of the car working from top to bottom, etc.

if you get this method sorted you will never inflict anymore swirl marks.

Are you looking for a polish or a wax? polish is usually a mild paint cleaner and wax provides the protection

a good polish is Autoglym SRP/Dodo Lime Prime (both have very mild cut, autoglym is full of fillers so hides defects such as swirls) Dodo also do Lime Prime Lite which has no cut, its a pure polish.

Wax's - Collinite 476S is the best ive used, its a paste and needs to be applied in thin layers and removed soon after (wouldnt recommend doing a full car until you've got used to this product), two layers 24hrs apart will last will a good 6 months usually. Collinite range is renowned for its durability so there are others as well.

Another wax that is popular over on Detailingworld currently is FinishKare (FK)1000p (although its technically a sealant)

Hope this was helpful

There is a new product autoglym do which is perfect for the MINI's black paint.

Called Ultra Deep Shine.

It is the same kind of product as Super Resin Polish and does the same stuff, but really helps to enrich the deepness of the black colour and also prevents the hologram effect that can occur when using normal polishes that are not specifically for dark paint work.

I have a black cooper s and I swear by the Ultra Deep Shine now I have tried it.
Lock that shine in with Extra Gloss Protection and you will have one of the shiniest MINI's around.

p.s. always do as said above regarding 2 bucket method and using microfibre or wool wash mits rather than sponges.

I agree with the Ultra Deep Shine.

My Cooper S is covered in swirls due to previous owners, had tried the autoglym renovator, resin polish, extra gloss and then wax but wasn't much better so thought I'd try the Ultra Deep Shine... its given a much better finish.

The annoying thing with black cars is they look awsome when clean... one day to work and back and its dirty again :-(

Tell me about it!

I have one black car (the MINI) and one very white car. And the white car no matter where its been driven always seems to look cleaner.
One journey out in the MINI and its filthy.
