Mini Seal and Protect - Is it a good idea?

Hi,

I've just bought a 'new' second hand 04 reg. mini and I'm picking it up on Thursday - Very exciting!

The mini garage asked if I wanted to pay £300 extra for the 'Mini Seal and Protect', which is apparently some 300% restinant protection wax stuff they can put on it to protect the car from scratches. Is this a good idea do you think and worth the £300? I'll be keeping the car in a garage for most of the time, so acid rain shouldn't be too much of a problem I would think.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

ps. If anyone read my previous post about a modified car I almost bought, well the garage gave me my deposit back, so all is well.

No, its not worth it, a good polish and wax will do the same thing. BMW paint is rock hard anyway & does'nt scratch as easly as say Vauxhal or Honda paint which is soft. You could get a pro. detailer to polish and wax it for less

not worth it on a five year old car...........in fact could do more harm than good.

agree with dunk71 that a good polish and wax is a much better idea.

Would agree with most of the above.

Wouln't agree with MINI paint being hard though. MINI paint falls off the bonnet area for fun

If you're worried about stone chips, and these are a real problem, look into a product like Ventureshield or MINIPirates new paint protection film. Mine protection film was circa £280 for bonnet, bumper, grille, headlights, mirrors, front roof, rear load area. So far so good, and a massive improvement on my last 2 Coopers.

i will be similar to supaguard, They work pretty well, but the bit that lets it down is the tool that is applying (usually doesnt know anything about valeting).

Skip it, its not work £300. I would say Clay (Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay) this makes a big differance then go for Autoglym SRP, followed by Collinite 476S (two layers will protect for upto 6months at least) Finishkare 1000p is another good protectant. (this would cost about £40).
