I'm new to this and new to services as prior to this car I only had an old fiesta worth £200.
Bought my Cooper S back in Feb from a Land Rover dealer who had took it as part exchange. It came with no handbook, worn tyres and had had more owners and miles than he had said it had.
Anyway, according to my TLC service book, the next service is due at 25,000 miles which I am coming up to, so I ring my Mini dealer and they asked when last service was- according to the book it was Feb 2007, so they say I am too late and will have to pay £240. When I switch the car on it says next service due in 3900 miles.
I've looked everywhere in the small print and can't see that it says has to be every 2 years. I'm fuming because I would've happily took it in as soon as I got it in Feb just for peace of mind if I'd known.
Its 2 years or as service counter - whichever comes sooner... Sadly you will have to pay as you missed 'the boat' so to speak... Try ringing the LandRover dealer and explaining...

Thanks, thought as much. I still can't see where it says 2 years in the small print. I can't be bothered contacting the Land Rover dealer-he's lied about so many things I can't see the point in wasting my time with him.
I'm booked in for a 'free' healthcheck with the dealer next week and I suppose I will just have to pay up for a service.
May be worth taking the key into your local dealer. They can scan it and tell you all sorts about the car including when it was last serviced by MINI. After all your service book may not be correct
If it was 2007 then as MOS says you will have to pay I'm afraid. The TLC pack is very rigid in what it includes and when.
PS the 3900 shown on the computer doesn't have a - sign in fornt of it does it? If so this indicates the service is overdue by the 3900 miles.
For what it's worth my MCS was 2000 mile over and a good few month over the 2 years and it didn't cost me a penny. The dealer had to get it authorised by mini but there was no problem.
If that is indeed the case then the dealer has breached the Sale of Goods Act, in a number of ways. If it was me I'd be contacting my finance company (if one was involved in the sale) and/or the local trading standards office.
ok, what year is the car? you could negotiate with your nearest mini dealer for an extended TLC and then maybe they would do the service a bit cheaper.
The computer doesn't have a - in front of the miles, and they are decreasing.
Nice to see there is some dealers out there that aren't so rigid, I will try to see if I can get it authorised as you did Paul and Mark, possibly trying a dealer slightly further out than my local one.
As for the dodgy Land Rover dealer, I paid for the car with a bank loan, although I was annoyed about the added 2k mileage and 3 extra owners, lack of manual and worn tyres, dodgy window and broken back wiper, I felt I still got a good deal as the car was only £7k with 22k miles and nearly yr MOT+tax, so I didn't feel necessary to go back and complain. I should've noticed the tyres but I'd already fell in love with it and he'd knocked a further £500 off the price.
It is 54 reg. Could maybe try the extended TLC if all else fails!!
