cooper S downpipe

I have a 55 reg Cooper S and was told recently by BMW I need to replace the downpipe - at a cost of just over £900 ! appreciate any advice whether a) this price sounds right and/or b) any alternative downpipe vs BMW that could be recomended ?

For £900 was thinking of maybe replacing the whole exhaust system for more performance and welcome any system suggestions here plse ?

Bloody hell! Best thing to do would be to ask ThinkMINI or 1320MINI for prices, as £900 seems like a hell of a lot!

I take it you mean manifold, as its the new model S that has a downpipe?
I would go aftermarket, like said , can easily pick up a good second hand system on ebay for half that amount.. worth also contacting Lohen as they may have some secong hand sytems for sale too.

Do you know what's wrong with the downpipe? May just be a welding job...

I noticed that when you throttle off you have sound like a loose exhaust clamp / rattling which upon inspection I was told the downpipe was disintegrating. Have checked a couple of other places for quotes and it seems there is a monopoly on downpipes for a copper s ! If I have to spend that sort of money am looking at a full Millteck system which suspect should sound better and probably gives me a slightly improved performance ?

id been surprised unless your car has done high mileage that it is disintergrating, BMW tend to over do work sometimes, it could be just a new clamp you need, worth checking maybe at an exhaust centre instead?

Yeah, I'd get the advice of one of the Mini tuners on here, or an independent garage (who will usually take a look and give you a quote for free).
