Wink

My S was shifting a little more stiffly than I thought it should, so I changed the transaxle lubricant......and it was a wise move as the level of lubricant was only just over half of what it is supposed to be. it was underfilled by almost 3/4 of a quart. the drain plug and fill hole are readily accessible from under the car and the whole process only took about 15 minutes.

It took about 63 oz. or just under 2 qts. to fill it and I used Redline MT-90.......and the ease of shifting has improved.....it is less notchy......MT-90 is the recommended weight for the 6 speed Audi TT which also uses a Getrag transaxle......the Redline is expensive at $8 per quart......but, is recommended as the best available.........I also use it in the transmission and differential of my Chrysler Conquest TSI and the shifting is better and the car is definitely, though only slightly, faster......

Yep, Redline does work good in Mitsu cars (Galant VR4 here )
Wonder why your S was low...hope they all aren't.

yep, 15 minutes. takes an 8mm hex key and a funnel with about a 2' long 1/2" hose to re-fill. that is a very cute little trans and axle.

mine had about 1.5 qts in it and took just under 2 qts to re-fill with the Redline MT 90.

I've been thinking about this as well because my gerbox is 'notchy.' Got a few questions thiough. Is it written down some where or can you tell me where you found out the what the gearbox lube requiremnts are? Amount? Did you assume you fill to the fill plug level? I like Redline as well, but why not MTL not the 90wt? Are there crush washers on the drain and fill plugs? Torque values?

Many thanks

From what I've read the MTL was formulated to ease shifting of BMW trans in cold weather. I am not that familiar with Redline products, is their MT90 equivalent to the standard 75W90 weight gear oil? Mobile makes a synthetic version that I was thinking of using...any reason not to? Thanks

The Redline technical dept advised as to the recommended lubricant for the Audi TT 6 speed Getrag transaxle....as for the other questions, it would make sense to call the tech dept.......the number can be obtained from any Redline dealer....or off the internet.......The Mini owners manual only gives the capacity of the transaxle.....nothing more..

i used a set of ramps; you could do it without if you were thin enough to slide under...or figure how to put the front wheels up on a curb to get a few inches more clearance

the drain plug is on the bottom of the diff housing, the fill about 3" higher, you need a 8 mm hex. to refill, i used a funnel with a 1/2" hose and fished it down from the engine compartment stuffing it into the fill opening.
