Tlc

I am looking at buying a 2004 Mini Cooper S Works with 30,000 miles and have been told that it has still got 1 free service left. Please can someone explain how the TLC package works and let me know if it is transferable to me and also if the car can be serviced by different mini dealer as I do not live near where the car has been serviced. Also I think I read something about the TLC pack being for 5 years so presumably the service will need to be carried out before the car is over 5 years old. Many thanks in advance.

It's on mileage OR age, whichever you hit first. So after five years, even if you haven't had all your servicing done, it expires.

It's valid for all MINI dealers and is transferrable from owner to owner.

One thing to note is that the tlc pack only covers a set number of services, and the car decides when these are required. Once you have used these services up the pack is expired, even if you've used them in 3 years or by 30k miles. My last tlc pack way expied within 18 months and 33k

If I recall correctly the pack on 1st gen cars includes;
Oil Service @10k
Inspection 1 @ 25k
Oil Service at 35k
Brake Fluid change at 2 years.

These mileages will vary according to driving type and style. Would be worth double checking with your local dealer what service are still covered under the tlc pack on the car you're buying, and checking when the car is saying the next one is due.

tbh on a five year old car I wouldn't worry about the tlc, just make sure it's been serviced correctly and looked after over the last five years.

and when it does need serviced take it to a good independant, or do it yourself.

Many thanks for all the advice. The car has been owned from new by my friends 60 year old mum and from what I've seen she drives like a nun so I imagine the car has been very well treated and not thrashed.

If the car has the three year TLC package still current, ask your nearest dealer to up grade to 5 yr. Just be aware there will be an additional cost.

TLC is always 5 years, warranty is 3.
TLC can be extended to TLC XL for an extra 3 years, giving a total of 8 years servicing.

Extending the TLC pack is something I would want to look at doing. Can anyone recommend a dealer or are there any to avoid in the Middlesex/Surrey area? Local dealers to me are Cobham, Sunninghill and Thames Ditton.

Hi,

Just taken delivery of our new Mini Clubman (08 reg), however there was not a tlc booklet or vouchers. When I asked the dealer they said that it was not neede as it will be logged on BMW MINI computer. Is this correct?

Our other Mini that i bought last November did have a bookley and vouchers.

It probably will be on the computer, although I'd get the fact that it does have TLC in writing just to make 100% sure!

Upgrading to TLC XL is always a good move too Servicing it yourself, while saving money in the short run, would cost you big time in the long run. Nobody would want to buy it (could have never been serviced!), and as a result any trade in value would be altered accordingly
