Help refilling coolant

Hi, my wife's Mini started overheating last evening. I checked and the expansion tank was bone dry. I added coolant to the expansion tank - to the MAX level. I drove it for a while and it started heating up again. I checked under the hood again and the expansion tank is still full to the MAX level. I am afraid there might be an air bubble in the hose so it isn't pulling in the coolant. How do I bleed the tank or "prime" it if that makes sense?

Attached is the procedure for draining and adding coolant. This is from the Mini Maintenance Manual. Hope this helps.
