If not, I think the MINI has a way of testing the oil to determine how long it will be until it "requires" changing.

My MCS is predicting an its first oil change at ~20k or two years after it was built 10/08.

No, it wasn't reset, it's been suggesting about 27k miles for the first change since it was about 6mths old. I do mostly fast A road and motorway miles and I think it took that into account. It is supposed to take driving style into the calculations. A reset would have messed with the TLC service so we decided not to.
My cars are oil changed every year, even the little Honda which never does more than 1k miles per year!

United-States have the oil changed

Read yuo user guide. (I did not) You should have your oil and filter changed at least yearly no matter how many miles you have driven it. At least that is what it says here in the USA. Other things should also be done yearly. It should be covered under your Maintenance Warrenty.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has replied for their comments . It is reassuring to see that you all agree with me and all point out that it's an unacceptable risk to leave the engine oil unchanged for so long . I will contact the garage and refer them to this thread . Regardless of their response I will make sure that the oil gets changed. Thank you all.

Dave

the r53 calculates the service interval by fuel consumption.
the more fuel it uses the more load is on the engine therefore the service interval will be shorter. 15k max between services when you drive them steady is normal!

On UK cars its 2 years or when the service counter reaches zero. Which ever is sooner

Interesting that the interval is only one year in the USA mind...
