DIY Exhaust patching

At its last MOT in November, my Mini One was noted as having some corrosion around the end of the exhaust, Kwik Fit also commented on it when they replaced the brake pads and said it wouldn't be an MOT issue or problem as-is, but was worth patching to avoid it getting worse.

Here's a pic of the problem area..

I'm guessing that the various Holts exhaust bandages etc. could be used to patch this once it's been cleaned up with a wire brush? and in theory should be good enough to the next MOT rather than replace the exhaust.

This would be my first proper bit of DIY on my Mini, so thought it would be a good plan to ask about first

Exhaust bandages and their like are nothing more than a short term bodge to either bluff your way through an MOT or fix up a banger with a view to a rapid sale!

Nothing you can do is going to slow down the structural disintegration of that silencer, as the corrosive gases and liquids in the exhaust gases will inevitably rot the silencer from the inside out.

Save your money and put it towards the inevitable new silencer when it finally blows....
