Too much oil!!

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time posting, so hope everything is in the right place!
I bought my 09 Mini Cooper Convertible from Marshalls and I've had it 3 months.I thought I'd check the oil today, but when I took the dipstick out, the oil was half way up it! I tried it again, but the same result. I've read that due to the flimsy nature of the dipstick and also the bendy pipe, perhaps the oil could have spilled onto it, thereby affecting the reading. Has anybody had this problem, or am I going to have to prove that Marshalls could have possibly ruined Marco!!!

I doubt if they could overfill it that much. Because of the design ignore any oil on the dipstick until you get to the oil that goes all the way around the dipstick and there are no gaps in the oil lower than this. Hope that makes sense.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

I would take it back and insist on it being checked. Prolonged running with too much oil can blow oil seals and then you might have none left! Gone are the days of waiting for it to burn off in the bad old days of motoring (<1990s). In fact I remember a friend of mine had a Metro in 1992 that used 2 litres of oil a week ; he looked like something out of James Bond at the start of the week!

You are wiping the dipstick before you check the level aren't you? Just needed to check.
