Service interval/policy on cherished MINIs?

Hi There,

my 56 Cooper S has 41k miles on the clock, 40k when I picked it up 3 weeks ago. I bought it at Cooper Reading and it comes with FSH.

There, however, are only 2 services in the logbook, the last at 23k dating from 2010. The car is telling me the next service would be due in 5k miles or in September 2012. But that's 23k miles and 2 years since the last one!

There is also an unused MINI TLC voucher book. But because the car is 5yrs and 2 months old that's not any good I guess.

The salesman states that they only service cars when its indicated. I never heard of any dealer handing over unserviced cars, I just expected this to be common sense when offering a 1 year warranty.

I have now experienced an issue with exhaust popping and loss of power under full throttle. I highlighted the lack of a recent service when leaving the car at my dealership this morning and they said "they would look into it".

What is your take on it?

service intervals are every 18k..when i picked mine up it had only had one service..car had done 25k,the air filter hadn't even been changed and it was well overdue imo,due to the fact you couldn't see daylight thru it..with tlc pack air filter gets changed 35k

i'm not a fan of extended oil change intervals,i change my oil/filter every 7-8k..

you can oil/filter change your car as many times as you want, you don't have to wait till the car tells you..

the exhaust popping is normally there on over-run,but shouldn't be there on accleration or just cruising at a steady speed.

I'd rather push my mini than drive a ford or anything french..

Criteria for buying a diesel..1)long journeys.2)motorway miles.3)minimum 14k mls per yr..

Thanks,

So this means that the service should have been due pretty much immediately (23k+18k=41k) and hence I am right in expecting to get the car handed over with a full service. Just confused how the car thinks its due after 23k now... unless I remember 23k when it was actually last serviced at 28k. Whatever it is, I will get an engine/gearbox oil and filter change done. Any idea if this needs to be done at MINI to keep my 1yr cherished warranty

As far as the popping/stuttering is concerned, here we go, same for me. Let's see what they tell me tonight.
