Newbie - Transmission Problem/ Battery Problem Questions
Hey Everyone My name is Tony i am new to the forum and new to the Mini Cooper world and i am in need of some advice or help if possible. I brought a second hand 2004 Salt (i should mention i am British but now liniving in Cancun Mexico) car seemed fine perfect condition etc etc then:
Noticed oil leaking a week later, had it checked and was told the Transmission box is bust (everything else is fine just the box) now i went to the dealer here and to be truthful they think i am American and want to charge me around 4000usd for the box. Can i get any second hand transmission box cheaper/any reputable dealers and so on.
And the other is my battery went dead after not using/turning on for 3 days- at first lights came on funny clicking noise but not starting then 2 days later nothing! Can i change the battery by myself or does this disrupts the computer (seen some other forums) As you can tell i am completely clueless and any ideas, info anything is much appreciated.
Hi Tony, Not sure about the G/box, other than sourcing one from an accident damaged car & getting an independant garage to fit it (over here Im guessing that would probably cost around £1200)
As for the battery, you should have no trouble with a straight swap without disrupting anything.
Try Minigearboxes below for your gearbox/transmission, email/call John Tee of Minigearboxes as he is a Mini2 forum member and his company have shipped reconditioned Mini gearboxes to the USA so I would guess he could maybe also ship one to Mexico for you: mini gearbox, gear fix - Mini recon gearboxes | BMW MINI cheap gearboxes
