I Was told by my dealer (not drug) that a 1,000 miles was required to run the car in properly before going over 4 thousand revs. Is this really necesary in this day and age or do modern car come ready run in?

Just dieing to give it some welly!!!!!!!!!!!

Your dealer isn't right

The procedure given in the manual tells you to keep the revs below 4500 and stay under 95mph for the first 1250 miles.

I'm no mechanic but it makes sense that in order to get the best from your car in the long run you should follow MINI's guidelines. That's what I did

There have been a whole bunch of threads on this subject.

Some people believe it is worthwhile to follow the Owner's Manual to the letter , others think it is best to drive very hard from the car's first mile.

To read more, please do a Search for "running and breaking" and you'll find the threads.

(in the UK/Oz it's called "running-in" an engine, in the US/Canada the same thing is called "breaking-in" an engine)
