England Mini Oil Grade

Hi all,

I've read lots on this and looked at a number of sites and now totally confused!

I have a Mini Cooper S R53 (MY2003) and would really like to know what oil is best:

Had car booked in with National for oil change (best price) however they were going to use Castrol Edge 5W-30.

I've read that these Mini's should use Edge 0W-30 due to the chain tensioner.

Should I order 0W-30 and change oil (Opie Oils 20% off at the mo) or stick with 5W-30 and trust National?

All advice would be most welcome.

Just spoken to my MINI dealer Cooper Durham and they have assured me that the correct oil and the one which they use for servicing is 5W-30.

I got some Castrol Edge 5W-30 from Halfords, they've got it reduced for the time being.
So currently it's a little cheaper than Opie Oils surprisingly.

0w oil has nothing to with the engine, it is for cold climates, bmw consider this anywhere that regularly drop below -20c to need 0w oil

Well that settles that then! 5W-30 it is don't expect to be below -20 on a regular basis if that was the case my engine oil would be the least of my worries!!

Thanks all, will stick to plan A
