DIY Getting annoyed now!!!

Well got my car back from mini and they said the lack of power was down to hardly any oil left as it uses a litre of oil every 621 miles. It just doesn't have that poke anymore and doesn't feel fun :-( they said can't be anything serious wrong as there is no warning light but there is I can feel it!!! Also today drove my car in the rain and the wipers had a mind of their own :-( had it on normal constant wiping speed. It decides to put it on fast wiping when I put it in reverse and no rear wiper going like its supposed to. Then when I parked up it decided to put it on the setting where it wipes then 5 seconds later wipes again even though I hadn't changed the speed. It was pouring down today but I generally think I have a problem considering it doesn't even do the rear wiper on reverse. Really starting to have enough of my mini and its depressing really seems this was my dream car! Its so bad seems I have had it 4 months and this has gone wrong. Also within the first week the thermostat went!! Considering mini dealers are meant to only have "cherished" minis I'm starting to think different. Please help people turn this frown upside down! I have put a JCW exhaust on it could this be due to the lack of power? Also makes a weird noise at 5000 revs like its hitting the red line. Does yours sound like that or is this a problem? Thanks Emma.

If the wipers are rain censored the speed up if the need to and then when they notice no rain they will go back to the setting you have it on witch was the first one no? Have you tried to reset the ecu regarding your lack of power is it a turbo or supercharged?
If there is a air leak this may not flag up a code. Check all the hoses. Someone had same problem with theirs and it was a hose.

OK maybe that will sort the first problem. It did go into a slower setting as well though. The weather was pretty hectic today!! Its a turbo. Sorry what hoses do I need to check? Sorry I'm female haha :-) thanks. Emma.

Also I think I have a rain sensored screen but my wipers aren't automatic. I have to use the stalk to choose an option.

You do have to turn the autowipe on every time you start up, just press the end of the wiper stalk and it should work. That said, they don't always agree with your definition of rain.
JCW exhaust will not reduce the power (at least I've never heard of that happening) but several R56 MCS have required decoke, mine did and all the power is back now.

Try some slick 50 fuel system cleaner. I was amazed how much more smooth and how much more lively the engine felt

Turns out I do have a wiper problem though. Just went to petrol station. When I start the car I put it on a wiper mode let's say the one that goes every 5 secs using the stalk. Then as soon as I pull away it goes up to the next mode automatically. Tried this a few times and done it every time. That ain't right. Also put it in reverse with front wipers on and no rear wiper movement like it used to. You have to do it manually for it to work. Stupid thing!!! What sort of problem is this? Thanks.

I aint to familiar with the turbo engines but air leaks can cause a huge defect in performance. Did this lack of power happen before the jcw exhaust was fitted?

Yes I think so. Wipers seem fine now so don't need to sorry about them. I think it was just slowly losing power and now it just doesn't have that bit where it goes some. Put it this way I found it hard to keep up with this Nissan granmymobile :-( but mini garage says its fine. Its not is it?

No yourmcar should fly. I think you should get it into a garage and explain what is going on. A good garage doe that have knowledge of turbos.don't give up.
Did it have a loss of power before the exhaust was put on????

System cleaners can be just snake oil , take it to a good garage if your not happy with another and always tell them what has been done up to now, i have never ever heard of anyone having power issues just to pour in some cleaner and the problems to have gone, if indeed it just needs a clean then get it done correct first time.

Emma, reading your first post, lack if power, very low oil level, 1ltr every 6-700miles, which is very excessive, I would suspect that your turbo is shot, which would account for power loss. Get it checked before it disintegrated and ruins your. Engine with bits of metal. Sorry for the possible bad news.

OK well I have put the system cleaner in. I will see how that goes. Thanks guys. Mark I don't think its losing that much power for a turbo to have gone. There's no smoke either. I have good mid range power. It just decides to give up after about 5000 rpm.
