Does anybody know how or can reprogram mini key fob. 3 buttons one. If I will get an used key from ebay that was programmed for a different car can that be reprogrammed to work with my car. Or is there someone there that can do it... Or anybody knows how much that will cost from BMW.
I think it's a job for your local BMW dealer and the price is about 150 to 200 I think somewhere around there.
They got to programs the new key to the car
Im not sure about MINI but Ive heard with some cars that once the key is programmed for a particular car thats it, it cant be changed? no doubt a crook would know how to do it but the dealers only want to sell you a new key.
^^^^^ this,2nd gen keys come programmmed to the car before they are dispatched to the dealer..you need to take the proof of ownership,id & all that when you pick the key up..
somewhere on this board there is a thread about someone trying to program a used key it didn't work, couldn't be done..
Just spoke to BMW and they said new key 124 quid with VAT...
It don't have to be programmed but it need activating, something that parts dept do if you have original working key for free unless there is something wrong with programming in your car. That's apparently because it's 3 button key otherwise it would be £130 for the key and £60 for programming...
doesn't need activating,i ordered another key earlier this yr,picked it up,next day just to put the info on the key i just placed it in the slot as normal started the car & off i went..
i didn't see the parts guy put it in anything before handing over to me,unless it was done before i picked it up..
I bought a used one off ebay for £11, which did not work (as it's been programmed for another car). I still had my spare though, which was broken, so I cracked them open and performed an organ transplant so that I could have a fully functional spare (and a small pile of broken bits).
