DIY Mini Cooper Tailpipe Tip

Hey Guys,

Just a quickie really,

I have just got myself an 04 mini cooper and love it!. I have noticed I am getting a rattle from what sounded like exhaust, upon closure inspection it appears the tip that goes onto tailpipe is loose, like the seal holding it in place firmly has deterorated.

Doing a quick search online I cannot find any info on them. however i have been told the majority of these are bolt ons.

I cannot get under the car to do a good inspection but just wondering if anyone could advise if these are bolt ons, where the bold would be and how to tighten them up.

if it's the seal any ideas on getting it replaced or secured?

cheers

Roo.

Drill it and put a self tapping screw in for now.

I don't wanna start drilling into things.

As a temp fix could I use exhaust putty and or exhaust tape to tighten/secure it abit more?

it's not a massive issue just doesn't sound very nice when it vibrates against the bumper

thanks

You wont harm anything by drilling it and fitting a self tapper and its invisible if you fit it from the bottom, lots of after market exhaust tail trims are held on this way, far better than messing with exhaust paste and tape, thats does look a bodge.

Hopefully Sorted

Soz for late replies as been busy busy. My tailpipe tip is a Miltek race tip - they get stuck onto the tail pip so no screws.. Wasn't comfortable with drilling into it or taking it off as it looks great Just got some hard steel resin from halfords - (not their own sitty brand) and re-sealed it so it wont move.. just gotta wait 1h for it to set fully and supposidly become hard as steal and will see if it's worked

(Hope it does. did a neat job of doing it so it doesn't look like i've just crammed putty in it. all smooth and looks good so fingers x'd)
