Hi everyone my lovely mcs is now the big 10!! And since his birthday he is slowly going down hill
Today's problem is my key!! this morning I noticed that the casing has completely perished!! I have the 2 button type and the black button (not the mini emblem one) has fallen out completely to expose the circuit board underneath.
I have ordered a new casing on eBay.
Does anyone know how I change this over??
It works fine, and battery as far as I am aware is also fine it's just this damn button.
Well if MINI years are the same as dog years hes probably feeling about 75 so might be feeling a bit rough, especially getting going in the morning and have the odd creak.
I have been planning to write a how-to on this, even have the photos loaded on here to do it but haven't gotten time yet. Not sure how much cross-posting is allowed, but if you go to the North American Motoring MINI discussion boards and search for "First Generation Key Refurbishment" you will find my how-to along with many pictures of my key and a couple of other keys I have done. I will PM you with a direct link.
The "Replacement Key Fob" link is for making one good key out of two of the "flat" type of MINI key from 2005 or 2006 on. This type of key has a remote control board that is easily programmable to work with any MINI, from what I've read.
The older, "clamshell" type keys have a remote board that is virtually impossible to reprogram unless you have the barcode tag that supposedly came with each remote key, although reports of anybody actually seeing these barcode tags are very rare. That's why these shells started showing up on eBay- you have to save the key you have or buy a new one from the dealer. There's really no getting a key in the aftermarket. The flat and clamshell keys are not interchangeable.
As you can see, even the most desperate looking key can be made to work and look as new again. Let me know if you need any help.
